Gambling.com’s selling for US$2.5m

Media Corporation announced that the Gambling.com domain has been sold to an unnamed party for US$ 2.5m (£ 1.5m).

Justin Drummond, Media Corp’s Chief Executive commented that the AIM-listed network and online publishing group was “very pleased” with the result of the sale of Gambling.com brokered by domain marketplace Sedo.
In 2005, Media Corp paid US$20m for Gambling.com, before the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the US in late 2006 in which the site’s traffic and advertising revenues were reduced.

For some ‘unknown’ reason, Google penalised the site in September 2007 which was then lifted in late 2009. This also caused a 62% decrease from the year before as it went from £1.1m to £410,000.

Poker.org was sold to affiliate PokerCompany.com for US$ 1m. This caused Sedo to broker the largest sale to date of a dot.org domain in February last year. Bodog Brand purchased Slots.com last May for US$5.5m and it ranked in the top ten of the most expensive domain sales ever.

“The high sale price paid for Gambling.com is a real confidence booster for the global domain industry and demonstrates the value gambling companies are still prepared to place on their digital assets” said Seda’s CSO, Liesbeth Mack-de-Boer.
